About

I'm an optometrist clinician scientist with over 15 years of clinical experience. My research focuses on finding new ways to diagnose and treat various eye conditions including glaucoma and uncovering what the eye can tell us about the brain in health and dementia. I led a world-first clinical trial for a novel glaucoma treatment, which is now part of a global collaborative study to determine if it should form part of glaucoma care.

I balance life as a clinician, scientist and educator, and I'm dedicated to supporting women in STEM and encouraging girls to consider STEM careers. I’m a Curious Minds STEM Coach and Role Model for Inspiring Girls Australia.

I'm a purpose-driven leader who loves problem-solving and all things creative. I get a kick out of reaching goals to create lasting impact. I'm a passionate science communicator and love sharing the importance of eye health and the value of research to our community. In recognition of this, I was an ABC Top 5 (Science) resident (2022), am a Superstar of STEM (2023–2024) and a Board Director for the Toyota Community Trust, funding STEM programs across Australia to support kids and adults in their STEM journey.

Dr Flora Hui is assessing a patient's eyes by looking through a slit lamp biomicroscope, which allows her to examine a person's eyes under magnification. She is assessing the patient's ocular health as part of a glaucoma assessment and eye test.
